Dorotheenstraße 19
Built:
1926
Architect:
Wilhelm Jost
This substation is one of the largest in the city. It is situated next to the city park (Stadtpark) and the cemetery (Stadtgottesacker). The broad, flat-roofed two-storey building with Expressionist details is in the functional ‘New Building’ style. In front of the building is a rectangular basin. A caretaker’s flat and public lavatories are integrated in the building. The corners of the substation are emphasised by a band of reliefs. The triangular windows and the parapet with triangular openings bear the decorative Expressionist hallmark of architect Wilhelm Jost.
