{"id":305309,"date":"2018-08-27T15:07:41","date_gmt":"2018-08-27T15:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moderne-halle.de\/ort\/tankstelle\/"},"modified":"2018-10-26T11:07:00","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T09:07:00","slug":"petrol-station","status":"publish","type":"ort","link":"https:\/\/www.moderne-halle.de\/en\/place\/petrol-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Petrol station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the late 1920s, architect Otto Steinkopff from Halle was commissioned with building a petrol station on Merseburger Stra\u00dfe.<\/p>\n<p>The innovative Modernist building which Steinkopff designed to be constructed in the midst of large Wilhelminian factories and tenement blocks, bears witness to the architect\u2019s great love of experimentation.<\/p>\n<p>The circular concrete construction is prominently situated on the corner of the main arterial road to the south of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Supported by three round pillars, a plate-shaped cantilever roof in light reinforced concrete rises up over a kidney-shaped base. The attendant\u2019s office featured a glass front, set back under the roof\u2014dynamic-looking and extremely functional.<\/p>\n<p>The filling station was very much up to par with the high standards of automobility after the First World War.
